ABOUT YOUR TEACHERS
Irene Lo (she/her)
Spirituality is radical liberation from within.
Irene’s yoga journey is one of spiritual connection, holistic well-being, and radical liberation.
At 15, Irene took her first hot yoga class and was hooked on the yoga high ever since then. She had a consistent hot yoga practice for many years, enjoying the physical discipline and the set routine of the 26and2 sequence. Upon entering the office world, she began to find her way into vinyasa yoga and ashtanga yoga in addition to continuing her physical practice of hot yoga. She struggled with toxic work environments and found yoga as a healing practice to find the strength to stand up for herself, find better career opportunities, and improve her relationships with her self and her community.
I awaken my spiritual potential when I honour my rest.
Irene is a trauma-informed yoga teacher of han/hakka descent. She is an immigrant to Canada from Taiwan. She believes in the power of radical rest where our yoga practice helps to nourish our collective capacity to dream of new worlds. Irene believes in decolonizing the yoga and wellness industries and co-founded an international summit, a brave space for women of colour and non-binary people of colour.
Irene is the Founder of Irene Yoga Flow, home to online yoga club on Patreon. This yoga club is an inclusive and safe space for people to come back to their yoga practice. She also offers her signature group program, Radical Rest for Asian Joy. Other recent healing group experiences include Chair Yoga for Chinese seniors. She has been interviewed by CBC Gem, Vancouver Is Awesome and Ricepaper Magazine for her work as a trauma-informed and decolonizing yoga teacher. She has spoken at the Flow In Solidarity Yoga Summit and leads trauma-informed yoga workshops for yoga teacher trainings.
Irene is also an intuitive tarot reader that sees tarot as a psychological opportunity to go in deep to our shadows. She has led workshops on how to decolonize tarot.
Journey inwards to know your self
She has completed yoga training in Vancouver and in Bali on vinyasa yoga, yin yoga, hatha yoga, and ashtanga yoga. Her decolonization yoga and tarot mentors include Eliana Chinea, Mimi Young, Luvena Rangel, and Christopher Marmole.
Irene is an E-RYT 200 and YACEP certified teacher with Yoga Alliance. She is currently based in Vancouver, Canada.
Paola Arzola (she/her)
You only have the present moment.
Paola’s yoga journey is an exploration of staying present, practicing non-attachment, and pursuing true joy.
Paola took her first yoga class at 25. She started to practice yoga because she wasn’t happy with her life. She was constantly stressed from work, and was stuck in relationships that had run its course. She began to practice yoga and since the beginning of her practice, she felt peace. She learned what it meant to silence the mind one breath at a time.
She began to regularly practice yoga, and the people in her life began to see the positive changes in her through her regular yoga practice. Paola is inspired to share her personal connection to yoga because she believes we are enriched by the simple things in life. Simple things like acknowledging we have a body, we are healthy, and we are alive and what a gift it is.
Her students love her class because she pushes them to never give up on themselves. She provides a comfortable space for her students to challenge themselves so they see their progress, while also not taking things too seriously.
Paola received her 200 hour yoga teacher certificate with Sadhak School in Mexico in July 2019. Afterwards, she taught corporate yoga, educating employees about how yoga can help with stress, anxiety, and depression. In August 2022, Paola received her 300 hour certification in Bali with Bali Yoga School. You can find her teaching yoga at yoga studios and at rock climbing gyms. She is also at work creating her own yoga shala that will be open to the public in 2023! Follow her updates here.
Paola learned how to perform huevo limpia from her mother who learned it from her mother. Egg cleansing is a popular spiritual cleansing technique because it is very safe, simple, and effective.
Paola is currently based in Monterrey, Mexico.
Q&A
How do I get to the retreat?
If you are flying in to Mexico, we recommend you fly to Los Cabos or to Cancun and from there, take a flight to Monterrey. Or do vice versa! This way, you can save on the ticket cost and spend an extra day in travel adventures!
How do I choose my accommondation?
As of February 2023, there is still one dome left that can hold up to 5 occupants. We also have camping sites available. You can email info@ireneyogaflow.com to reserve your preferred accommodation.
What are payment plans and how do they work?
Financial accessibility is one of my values as a yoga asana teacher. I continue to navigate and experiment with the best ways to provide financially accessible offerings. For this retreat, I am offering payment plans. Payment plans are a plan to pay for an offering in installments. We can decide together how the payment plan will work that makes the most for you and feels best for you. All that is needed to confirm your seat and room is a down deposit.
