4 Benefits of Taking Private Yoga Classes
The short answer is yes.
And if you’re asking this question, you may be interested to learn why and if it’s right for you.
I work with private yoga clients in Vancouver, BC, and there are common reasons people reach out to speak to me about what 1:1 yoga classes look like.
You are most likely someone with an interest in yoga, and you want to invest in your growth on a holistic level, integrating physical, emotional, and spiritual health. You are interested to go deeper in the practice and you want classes catered for you.
You’re likely craving someone that you can trust to keep you accountable on this journey, especially when life gets in the way, and you need someone that knows how to work with your body.
Because every body is unique and it’s important to find teachers that can support your needs.
Not every teacher is meant for you. Not every teacher is capable of holding space for you.
Like having a therapist or a financial advisor or a personal trainer, a yoga teacher fills a specific need in your life.
If this is you, here are some of the benefits of why private yoga lessons are worth it for you:
Classes Tailored for Your Needs
Most public yoga classes are devoted entirely to yoga asana. There may be some breathework or meditation, but not always.
And, as most public classes are group classes of varying student levels, the cues given are general cues. Yoga teachers will try to give individual attention to students, but it is not always possible to provide more customized cues when they aren't working with regular students on a continuous basis.
If you want more individual attention to deepen your practice, students often seek out private yoga instructors for this common reason.
The Convenience Factor
It can be more convenient for your schedule to have someone come to your place and guide you through a yoga practice than for you to bring bring your yoga mat and workout bag to work.
Even when there is a studio near you, it can still be hard to make it out on the actual day, especially when last-minute things come up.
If you want to have more control over your schedule, working with a private yoga instructor can be an easy fix. Generally speaking, you'll have more flexibility to arrange lessons that will work for your schedule, and not the other way around.
Being Accountable to Yourself
If you find it hard to be motivated, or find that you are inspired and lose that inspiration quickly, working with a yoga instructor can help you stay focused on your health and wellness goals.
It's not easy to stick to something or to create new habits. Even in instances where we truly desire change, we recognize we need support. Ideally. a yoga instructor is that support. It is someone you can trust to talk about your progress, setbacks, issues, and concerns. It is someone that will check up on you, coach you and cheer you on.
If you recognize that you need someone to help you be more accountable to your yoga practice, hiring a yoga teacher is another popular reason that students look for private instruction.
Intention vs Practice
Many students that opt for private yoga instruction are not necessarily advanced or regular practitioners.
Many seek the holistic benefits of yoga during different stages of their life, and this may mean seeking asana poses to alleviate chronic pain or to de-stress through meditation.
It is about your intention and your connection to the practice than any attachment to our performance of the practice that counts.
If you are someone who likes to practice yoga and is interested to develop your practice, working 1:1 with a yoga instructor is a way for you to do that.
